All the work in this course is based on points with are assessed according to the school's grading scale.
93-100 = A outstanding work
85-92 = B above average work
77-84 = C average work
70 -76 = D poor
below 70 = F incomplete/fail
Students grades are primarily comprised of four parts:
Homework comprises approximately 25% of the student's overall grade. It is scored on completion and for showing appropriate, individual work. Homework is usually discussed at the end of the class which provides students with the opportunity to ask questions and receive clarification. Students correct their own homework during class. Homework is assigned to allow students the opportunity to independently practice and review what is being discussed in class. Homework may include worksheet assignments, editing, research, compositions, internet assignments, etc.
Projects
Projects are approximately 25% of the student's grade. Topics will vary according to the level of German and the theme being studied at the time of the assignment. Projects might include presentations in the form of wikis, research, posters, power points, poems, music, dance, and others.
The portfolio contributes approximately 25% of the student's grade. Portfolios focus on the process and what the student can do. In addition, it helps the student reflect on his/her strength and to recognize quality work. See portfolio link for more detail.
Quizzes are worth approximately 25% of the grade. Quizzes measure the student's oral, written, listening and reading comprehension skills.
Extra credit is available every week through oral participation and on an occasional base through other assignments.
A student's final grade for the year is calculated as follows:
90% from their cumulative points throughout the year.
10% from their final exam.
